The New Blue Tractor has just been published! Now available at Amazon, it is a first reader book for kids who like machines -- to help them become readin' machines. My partner in this book is the very talented author Stacy Gabel.

I have lived most of my life on and around farms. My studio is located on a farm that was settled by my family in 1840. Creating the illustions for The New Blue Tractor was an assigment close to my heart. Hours spent drawing scenes which naturally occur in my everyday life made for many pleasant days in the studio.

I've always been curiuos to know how something works, what make it tick, what holds it together. While I delight in detail, my images are not blueprints nor engineering drawings. They are fun, a bit of whimsy. Sort of realism seen through a child's eyes.

While you and your child read the carefully crafted story by Stacey Gabel, I sincerely hope my illustrations allow you both to enjoy the beautiful world of The New Blue Tractor.

Art For Tots -- A Hook and Ladder Fire Truck

VROOM, VROOM, CLANG, CLANG and a siren's WHEEEEEE is the music heard in many boys rooms. Fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, rescue vehicles, ems vans and medical helicopters speeding to an emergency to save lives and property can inspire a boy for a lifetime. It is no wonder decorating kids rooms with a firefighter, law enforcement and medical emergency response theme is popular.

After receiving a large number of requests, I created this hook and ladder fire truck last year. I used pictures of a fire truck in California as inspiration. Children love the bright colors. The detail is an effective learning aid for viewing how hook and ladder trucks actually look and work. Caution, mothers may be asked questions about this fire truck for which they have no ready answer.

My lighthearted, whimsical style lights up any room. No wonder it has already found its way into many little boy's rooms --and even a few big boy's offices and dens!
